a-SIS extends its collaboration with the Staples Group

02-01-2008

Having deployed LM7® on the sites of the companies JPG (France), Mondoffice (Italy), Neat Ideas (Great Britain) and Staples/JPG (Germany & Belgium), the world leader in office supplies has once again signed with a-SIS and has just gone live with LM7® at the Kalamazoo site in Spain.

In this un-mechanised warehouse located in Lezama (Bilbao), order preparation has been computerised using the pick then pack
collection process. Operators use a trolley and a radio-frequency terminal: they pick the products in each picking location and then
regroup them before packing them in a dedicated zone for split case boxes and in the dispatch zone for full case boxes. LM7® has enabled Kalamazoo to manage product collection and to optimise operator movements in accordance with product position.
The WMS’ powerful cubing function has also enabled them to improve box filling. There are over 6,000 product references in the Bilbao site’s database. Approximately 9,300 lines i.e. an average 4,500 boxes are prepared daily. To deal with a constant increase in activity, Kalamazoo will doubtless need to equip its warehouse with a mechanised conveyor in a few years’ time.
