Staples Poland will implement LM7

01-09-2009

The Staples Group’s Polish site will leave its current site in Gdynia during October and move to a new 5 500 m2 platform located in Gdansk. This move will provide the opportunity to computerise the new site. It is naturally a-SIS’ LM7® which will be installed as the latter is already in use at 8 of the group’s European sites (France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, etc.).

This new distribution centre which is essential for Staples’ development in Poland should allow the generation of a significant increase in productivity and an even higher level of preparation quality. The complementary use of radio-frequency terminals will allow the global stock to be made more reliable, whilst LM7®’s powerful cubing functions will optimise box filling, which will ultimately allow the number of dispatched volumes to be limited.

To optimise the operators’ movements in relation to the products’ positions, the pick then pack preparation principle will be implemented on this fully manual site. Each product will be picked then grouped in a dedicated zone for split case boxes or directly in the dispatch zone for full case boxes.

As well as the usual product families (office supplies, paper, IT consumables…), the distribution centre also dispatches foodstuffs (coffee, biscuits, drinks…). The latter will be managed according to the FEFO (First Expired, First Out) rule, which also involves the management of expiry dates from when the products are received.
